Senior Indian sports journalist Vikrant Gupta has received harsh backlash for his comment on Bangladesh Cricket Board’s decision to not visit India for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Earlier, BCB approached the International Cricket Council (ICC) requesting to relocate their matches from India to Sri Lanka given safety concerns as the reason following the heightened tensions between the two countries.

Vikrant took to X to share his views saying “Bangladesh Cricket Board now has to decide whether or not to go against their Interim Government - with the Wednesday ICC deadline looming their Govt’s anti-India ego can ruin their cricket ecosystem.”

He went on to compare the situation with Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to move their matches to Sri Lanka after the diplomatic tensions between India Pakistan after the May 2025 war.

“Problem for Bangladesh is they’ve gone so far they really can’t now travel to India too - interesting to see if Pakistan also pull out because that’s what apparently they’ve told Bangladesh.” he added.

In response, Pakistani senior journalist Faizan Lakhani called out Vikrant’s hypocrisy for expecting the Bangladeshi team to go against their government while maintaining that Indian players always align with India’s national stance.

“If the BCCI is always accommodated to align with its government's policies, why can’t the BCB be granted the same liberty?” Faizan wrote quoting the post.

The Pakistani journalist reiterated that it is the ICC and the BCCI who have been “damaging cricket’s ecosystem”.

Previously, BCCI refused to visit Pakistan during the 2025 Champions Trophy aligning with India’s national stance.

India and Sri Lanka are set to host the upcoming cricket event from February 7 to March 8.
