As the countdown to Republic Day begins, Border 2 is quietly turning cinema halls into busy booking counters.

The war drama, which arrives in theatres on January 23, has gone into advance booking mode with unusual speed, and the early signs suggest that the film has found its audience even before the first show rolls.

The sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic has already opened in around 9,000 shows across India, with more screens being added every hour.

Trade sources say the response has been brisk since bookings opened on Monday morning. By Wednesday, just over 48 hours later, Border 2 had sold more than one lakh tickets.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film’s opening-day advance booking stands at ₹3.43 crore so far, a figure expected to rise faster as DOLBY CINE shows come online.

On BookMyShow, the film is currently selling about 3,000 tickets an hour, and the pace is picking up.

With two days still to go, Border 2 has already crossed the advance booking numbers of Sunny Deol’s last big release Jaat, which had collected ₹2.4 crore before opening to ₹9 crore net.

It has also edged past Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which stood at ₹2.5 crore in day-one advances and later opened at ₹28 crore.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Sunny Deol alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
