The former sports reporter has announced she will be running for Senate
Former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya has launched Minnesota Senate bid.
The 61-year-old worked from 2011 to 2022 as a sideline reporter for NBC's Sunday Night Football before becoming a conservative commentator.
On Wednesday, Michelle announced her hopes to win the Republican nomination for the Minnesota seat.
The seat has been left vacant after Democratic Sen. Tina Smith. retired from it.
“For years, I covered the biggest football games in America” Michele said in her statement.
She continued in the video posted on social media “I walked the sidelines when the pressure was mounting and the stakes were the highest. That job taught me about more than football. It taught me about how leadership really works.”
Michele immediately received support from Sen. Tim Scott. who said “Michele is the only candidate with the common-sense leadership Minnesotans are desperately craving.”
Other Republicans hoping to secure the seat include former NBA player Royce White and military veterans Adam Schwarze and Tom Weiler.
Minnesota has been in the news since Renee Good was fatally shot by ICE agent, who was supported by Trump, earlier in January.
