‘Cheekatilo’ review: Sobhita Dhulipala’s bold film falters in execution
‘Cheekatilo’ movie review: Sobhita Dhulipala can’t save this shallow thriller
Sobhita Dhulipala returns to the OTT platform after her performance as streetsmart Tara Khanna in Prime Video's Made in Heaven with her new film of this time.
Sandhya Nelluri from the movie shows her authentic Telugu identity through her performance which she shares with her role in Cheekatilo a crime thriller that offers a unique concept.
The execution of their social commentary about a delicate topic results in confusing messages which they unintentionally present. The film required deeper emotional understanding and complex elements but the audience received a showy performance instead.
The story of Cheekatilo
Sandhya Nelluri working as Sobhita left her Neralu Ghoralu style TV show to establish her podcast from a neglected space within her house.
She aims to report criminal activities through actual evidence and compassionate handling of the situation instead of creating a show for people to watch. Sandhya stands ready to marry her boyfriend Amar who is played by Vishwadev Rachakonda yet she remains on the edge of reaching her joyful moment.
She still struggles with a past event that most women experience. The serial rapist and killer shows the same level of interest in her that she displays toward him.
Review: Cheekatilo
Cheekatilo develops his narrative through a robust foundation which examines the hidden parts of societal perceptions about sexual abuse and molestation.
The film establishes a clear link between its main character and her investigative work because she has personal ties to the case she investigates yet the entire production appears shallow.
Sandhya stays mostly straight faced through some of the most heart breaking situations which makes it harder to connect with them.
The other characters in the story base their character development more on their personality traits than Sandhya except for the murderer who possesses greater character weight.
