In a surprising turn of events, it appears that when the 2026 Oscars nominations were revealed on January 22, Wicked: For Good co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were notably left off the Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress lists.

The sequel also failed to land a single nomination after Wicked Part One had previously earned 10 nods, taking home two wins.

The shift is hard to ignore as just one year ago, both stars were in the Oscar race, with The 32-year-old singer and actress and the 39-year-old English actress receiving nods for Wicked, though the trophies went to Mikey Madison for Best Actress over Erivo for her performance in Anora, and Zoe Saldaña taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress over Grande for her work in Emilia Pérez.

The snub continues to follow a recent pattern for Cynthia as she was also overlooked by the Critics Choice Award in January for Wicked: For Good, where the Victorious alum Ariana earned a nod.

However, Ariana and Cynthia did get recognised for their work in the musical at the Golden Globes awards, earning separate nominations for their performances.

Despite their nominations at the high profile ceremony, neither actresses won Golden Globe. Cynthia had lost out to Rose Byrne in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy category for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, and One Battle After Another's Teyana Taylor triumphed over Ariana in the supporting category.
