Why Channing Tatum says working with child actor in 'Josephine' scared him
‘Josephine' debuted at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 23
Channing Tatum opened up about his experience working alongside a child star in his latest movie, Josephine.
During a Q&A session after the January 23 premiere of his new drama at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, the 45-year-old actor said he was “so scared” to share scenes with debut child actor Mason Reeves.
Written and directed by Beth de Araujo, the drama stars Reeves as Josephine, an eight-year-old deeply affected after witnessing a sexually explicit incident in Golden Gate Park.
Tatum plays her father, Damien, while Gemma Chan portrays her mother, Claire.
The story highlights the bond between Damien and Josephine while also showcasing the tension that emerges as the young girl struggles to process her trauma.
“I was more concerned with her not thinking that I was actually mad at her,” the Roofman actor said. “I was like, ‘You know, I was just acting, right?’”
Reeves prompted laughter from the Sundance audience while recalling how Tatum kept checking in on her, saying, “He kept asking me about it, and I was like, ‘I’m fine!’”
To which the Step Up star replied with a laugh, “I was so scared.”
Regarding his upcoming projects, Channing Tatum is set to reprise his role as Gambit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
