Charli XCX is transforming herself into a new self.

More than a year after her “brat summer” made waves in pop culture, the singer-songwriter stepped onto a new role.

This week, on the Sundance stage Charilo showed a bold new side as she goes from music to film.

At the Eccles Theatre on Friday, January 23, festival-goers witnessed the world premieres of Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and Aidan Zamiri’s The Moment, both featuring Charli in standout roles.

Speaking to the crowd at The Moment’s mockumentary debut, she reflected on closing the “brat” chapter.

“Right now… I really want brat to stop,” she said, adding with a laugh that the move isn’t about leaving the era behind but about challenging herself as an artist.

In Araki’s comeback feature, Charli plays Minerva, a sharp-tongued American girlfriend caught in the chaotic orbit of Cooper Hoffman’s Elliot and Olivia Wilde’s character, Erika Tracy.

The film blends comedy, danger, and provocative twists, highlighting Charli’s unexpected comedic talent.

This year, Charli appears in three Sundance films, including Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, while Wilde headlines her own double-feature, The Invite.
