Charli XCX is shedding light on herself in the new comedy mockumentary, The Moment.
At Sundance on Friday, January 23, Charli unveiled the comedy mockumentary that’s as bold and unpredictable as the pop star herself.
But this isn’t just a behind-the-scenes look at album-making, Charli is using the film to explore the messy, human side of creativity.
“I wanted to show that it’s OK to be vulnerable, volatile, and a mess,” Charli told Deadline. “Those feelings are part of being human, and they’re part of making art.”
Instead of a traditional concert documentary, Charli teamed up with director Aidan Zamiri to flip the script.
The mockumentary blends humour with heartfelt reflection, giving audiences a window into her life while also poking at the strange ways art evolves once it’s released.
“Sometimes you create something, and then it becomes not yours anymore. People project onto it, and you just have to let go,” she explained.
For Charli, that process of letting go was like grieving. “This film is about how little control you sometimes have. That’s what I wanted to capture,” she said.
The Moment isn’t just a film, it’s an invitation to embrace imperfection, chaos, and creativity in all its unpredictable glory.
In Charli’s world, vulnerability isn’t a flaw, it’s the point.
