Chris Pratt stepped out of his tough guy image for a new role in Mercy, as per the director.
On Tuesday, January 20, the movie director, Timur Bekmambetov, reflected on Pratt's "very vulnerable" performance at the sci-fi film's New York City premiere.
The director recalled his favorite scene to film with Pratt while speaking with PEOPLE. It was the one where Chris speaks to his wife before she dies.
"It's the most dramatic, edgy, painful and emotional scene," the director shared.
Pratt stars as Chris Raven, a homicide detective accused of killing his wife. With just 90 minutes to prove his innocence, he faces a high-tech A.I. judge—fail, and execution is immediate.
"This movie, it's not just an action movie, because we expect Chris Pratt to be tough and jump and entertain us, but it's [also] very vulnerable, very broken man. And it was unique for him," he added. "He played this for the first time."
Bekmambetov said Pratt surprised him with "how unexpectedly dramatic he could be."
