Just hours after the news broke of Schitt’s Creek alum’s Catherine O’Hara’s death at 71, her representative came forward and revealed to People that she passed away 'after a brief illness.'

A spokesperson from the LAFD (Los Angeles Fire Department) confirmed to People that they responded to a call at 4:48 a.m. on January 30 for an approximately 70-year-old unnamed woman at Catherine’s residence.

The woman, believed to be the Home Alone star was then transported to a hospital while 'in serious condition.'

LAFD dispatch audio reveals the person at the address had been experiencing breathing difficulties.

The Canadian actress and comedian was known for her roles in Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, Beetlejuice and its sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and most recently The Studio with Seth Rogen.

News of her sudden death left many of her friends and colleagues in shock and grieving. Sevearl of them went on to share heartfelt messages for her with their heart full of sorrow.

Macaulay Culkin, who starred as her onscreen son in in the fan favourite Christmas movie, penned a heartwarming message on Instagram.

"Mama. I thought we had time," he wrote. "I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later," he added.

Her co-star Dan Levy, who also took on the role her onscreen son in the CBC sitcom, also took to Instagram with a sweet message, which read, "What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years."

"Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her."
