Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter has surprised viewers by revealing she is married.

The 79-year-old broadcaster confirmed on Loose Women she tied the knot with long-time partner Peter Spanton last Saturday in Great Yarmouth making this her fifth time getting married.

‘I finally did it,’ Janet joked. ‘I saved the best til last.’

A photo shared with Metro showed Janet opting for a low-key look wearing a bright printed dress rather than traditional white while Peter wore a black suit.

The couple appeared relaxed and smiling joined by their dog Badger.

Janet and Peter a former restaurateur and founder of Peter Spanton Drinks have known each other for the last 27 years.

They have largely kept their relationship private.

Her Loose Women co-stars were thrilled by the news after the couple sent in a video message announcing the wedding.

Brenda Edwards reacted emotionally saying ‘Congratulations, Janet!’ before adding ‘That’s got me quite emotional. I love that.’

Kaye Adams urged viewers to focus on Janet’s happiness telling Brenda to ‘stop counting the numbers’ in reference to Janet’s previous marriages.

‘She looks content, radiant, and happy,’ Kaye added.

Fans quickly shared their congratulations online.

‘I hope the three of you will be very happy,’ wrote one viewer.

Coleen Nolan commented, ‘OMG I’m so so happy for you both. Huge congratulations,’

while Ranvir Singh added ‘Absolutely wonderful news Janet..enormous congratulations x x.’

Janet has previously been open about her past marriages describing some as mistakes and others as lessons learned.

Speaking to The Guardian she once said: ‘I’ve been married four times and lived with a lot of blokes – I know how men’s minds work.’

Despite her sharp humour Janet has admitted she is sentimental and has kept all her wedding and engagement rings.

The journalist who does not have children has said there is ‘no stigma’ in that choice and insists she does not miss motherhood.

Janet is currently touring the UK with her one-woman show Off The Leash which she has described as a “deep dive” into her life.

‘I’ll be brutally honest,’ she said. ‘And it’s not over yet!’
