Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar reportedly joined director Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film Golmaal 5 and was expected to play the main antagonist opposite Ajay Devgn. The film marked the fifth instalment of the popular comedy franchise led by Devgn and directed by Shetty.

Ajay and Rohit had earlier announced Golmaal 5 during the lockdown. However, the project was delayed due to Shetty’s other commitments, including Indian Police Force, Singham Again, and IPS Maria. As per reports stated that the film was finally set to go on floors soon.

According to Variety India, the Chennai Express director made a major casting move by bringing Akshay Kumar on board. The actor reportedly signed on to portray the primary antagonist, setting up a face-off with Ajay and the rest of the cast.

Golmaal 5 was expected to mark the sixth collaboration between Akshay and Ajay after Suhaag, Khakee, Insan, Sooryavanshi, and Singham Again.

Reports also noted that this role followed another negative character played by Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan’s upcoming film Haiwaan, where he was cast opposite Saif Ali Khan. The two characters were said to be different in tone and treatment.

Besides Devgn and Kumar, the film reportedly featured Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and Kunal Kemmu.

Actors Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, and Ashwini Kalsekar were also part of the ensemble cast. Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan were said to be in talks to return, though no official confirmation was made.

The shoot of Golmaal 5 was expected to begin by the end of February 2026 at Film City in Mumbai.

The film aimed for a theatrical release next year. Before starting work on the comedy, Rohit Shetty reportedly planned to complete IPS Maria, starring John Abraham.
