Ricky Gervais mocks celebrities for political speeches at 2026 Grammys
English comedian hits out at Grammy winners for calling out ICE at the award ceremony
Ricky Gervais recently took a dig at celebrities for turning the 68th Annual Grammy Award into political platform.
The English comedian took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and expressed his disappointment for stars making political speeches, notably, about immigration crackdown happening around the United States of America.
On February 2, Ricky reshared a snippet of his 2020 Golden Globes monologue, telling the celebrities not to use their acceptance speeches to make political statement.
“If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a political platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg,” read the snippet of his speech.
Meanwhile, The Office star jibed at Grammy winners as he wrote in the caption, “They’re still not listening.”
The comedian’s post came after several of music’ biggest names spoke out against ICE raids at this year’s Grammys.
Interestingly, Billie Eilish, Justin and Hailey Bieber, Jack Antonoff and other stars arrived wearing “ICE Out” pins at the event.
Billie, who won Song of the Year for Wildflower, used her acceptance speech to criticise the current immigration policies.
Another celebrity, Bad Bunny, who won for Album of the Year, also shared his honest thoughts on ICE, saying, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
