Honey Irani speaks on Farhan Akhtar after ‘120 Bahadur’ setback
Honey Irani said the setback affected both Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar
Farhan Akhtar’s film 120 Bahadur was released in theatres in November last year but did not perform well at the box office. Following the film’s commercial failure, Farhan’s mother and screen writer Honey Irani spoke about its emotional impact on her son.
In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Honey Irani said the setback affected both Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. She called it a personal loss due to the effort and money involved in making a film.
“We have all gone through it. He and Zoya both have gone through it. Of course, it is your personal loss because you have worked so hard on it, and so many people are involved with the film, and so much money is involved. And when that film doesn’t work, it pains a lot,” she said.
Honey added that moving on would take time for Farhan. “It will take Farhan time to get over it, and to get over it, you have to move on to the next thing. But it will take time,” she said.
She also shared the advice she had always given her children about handling success and failure. “Not to take success to their head and failures to their heart,” she said.
Explaining further, Honey Irani said that films sometimes succeed unexpectedly, while even good films fail. She cited Guru Dutt’s Kaagaz Ke Phool as an example and said such outcomes were part of life and required analysis rather than emotional reaction.
Earlier, Honey shared a touching moment when she was initially pleased with her son.
Surprisingly, she didn't know Farhan was writing the screenplay for his first movie.
The creators of the music reality show Indian Idol posted a video of Farhan his sister Zoya Akhtar and mother Honey Irani in a recent episode.
Honey told Farhan how she felt, “I’m sorry because we have never worked together. I mean, I’ve never worked for you, you’ve never worked for me. So I hope we’ll change that in the future. And also sorry for getting a lot of beating from me. I think I couldn’t have asked for a better son. I’m really, really, really, really proud of him.”
