Who is Josh D'Amaro? Everything to know about Disney's next CEO

The Walt Disney Company announced Josh D’Amaro as its new chief executive officer, a top-level American business executive.

On Tuesday, February 3, the company announced that D’Amaro will be replacing longtime chief Bob Iger, as he retires at the end of the year.

As per the New York Post insiders, D’Amaro is a hospitality expert who has followed longtime boss Bob Iger so closely that he even copies his style of dressing.

D’Amaro joined the entertainment giant in the late 1990s under Iger as part of the finance department at Disneyland Resort. Iger, who took the position first in 1996, will be completing his tenure on Dec. 31, 2026.

D’Amaro is taking over as CEO effective March 2026. However, until he takes charge as CEO, D’Amaro will continue to serve in his role as chairman of Disney Parks.

“He dresses exactly like Iger. Sweaters, collared shirts,” a Disney source told the outlet. “He’s a good guy, well liked. Iger likes to note how much ‘charisma’ Josh has.”

However, before D’Amaro takes charge, several challenges stand before the next CEO when he becomes the head on March 18. He will be looking after responsibilities from lower international tourism to increased competition to movies.

Insiders describe the 54-year-old Disney Parks and Cruises executive as a “people person.” The sources added that D’Amaro’s interpersonal skills provide the resilience needed to navigate upcoming challenges.

Even before landing the top job, D’Amaro was already betting big on gaming.

He invested in a $1.5 billion partnership with Epic Games to bring Disney into the Fortnite universe, signaling his drive to make video games a core part of the company's DNA.

According to The Wall Street Journal, he’s not just looking at games as products, but as tools to transform how Disney tells stories from the ground up.

He’s also deeply involved with Make-A-Wish America, where he sits on the National Board. It’s a natural fit, given that Disney has been the non-profit's go-to partner for 45 years—together, they’ve helped make over 170,000 dreams come true.

Even though the sources say D’Amaro will be requiring a “vision” to bring new era trends into the company.

“It’s unclear whether he has the vision of strategy to manage the downs and ups,” a former Disney exec stated. “But people are rooting for him.”
