The streaming platform announced its Next On Netflix 2026 India program by introducing Chumbak which serves as its first original series that explores neighborhood life and portrays the social connections between people that establish their daily routines.

The announcement included a show teaser which Netflix released to show viewers a world that revolves around shared meals and laughter and arguments and tears and lasting friendship.

The series takes place in Mumbai's old row house district which serves as its backdrop for Chumbak. The series shows how five families create a surrogate family bond through their daily interactions.

The story follows a young author and his unusual family support group which creates comedic and emotional and strong teamwork moments, as the characters face their daily difficulties.

The founders refer to Chumbak as a collection of the warmth of community living.

Sharing their excitement the team behind the series said, “We’re so excited to finally introduce Chumbak to the world. This has been a truly collaborative journey with an infectious energy on set that came from working so closely together every day. That spirit has translated beautifully on screen and we can’t wait for audiences to experience Chumbak on Netflix this year.”

Aatish Kapadia serves as both writer and director of the series while Jamnadas JD Majethia produces the show. The creative team creates a storytelling style that combines familiar elements with their personal experiences of everyday relationships and family dynamics.

The film Chumbak presents Neena Gupta in the lead role supported by a cast which includes Deven Bhojani, Amyra Dastur, Anant V Joshi, Sumeet Vyas, Manasi Parekh, Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Sumeet Raghavan and Sandeepa Dhar.

The cast members together create a story which shows how their characters develop unexpected connections through their shared physical space and past experiences and their emotional ties to one another.
