One of the earliest breakout hits of Indian streaming is leaving the small screen and heading for the cinemas.
Mirzapur, the violent crime saga that helped define India’s OTT boom, is now getting a theatrical ending.
The makers have announced that Mirzapur: The Movie will release on September 4, picking up the story after season three.
Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment shared the first poster on Thursday, showing a line of black SUVs winding through a dusty road, a familiar image for fans of the show’s ruthless world.
The caption was clear about the shift in scale: “Ab dekhiye bhaukaal bade parde par. Watch #MirzapurTheMovie releasing at your nearest theatres on 4th September.”
The film brings back Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu Bhaiya, played by Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal, while also reviving Divyenndu’s Munna Tripathi, despite his death in the series.
Many familiar faces return, though Vikrant Massey’s Babloo Pandit will not, he is reportedly replaced by Jitendra Kumar.
Set in the lawless town of Mirzapur, the story of power, revenge and rivalry is now being framed as a big-screen farewell.
