Emma Stone reveals why she steers clear of social media: ‘I’m too afraid’
The ‘Bugonia’ actress gets honest about why she doesn’t have Instagram
Emma Stone has finally explained the real reason behind her extended hiatus from social media, particularly Instagram.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stone said she avoids social media as she discussed the Super Bowl ad she made with Bugonia director Yorgos Lanthimos for Squarespace.
The black-and-white ad, airing February 8, shows Stone trying to purchase her own domain name, which she said she also did in real life while working on the upcoming project.
"One hundred percent no. That’s why I don’t even have Instagram," she said, when asked whether she would turn her newly-acquired domain name into a lifestyle website.
The La La Land star added, "I’m too afraid of my own mental health to be engaged in that way, and that’s why I’m such a lurker and love following other people’s stuff."
Furthermore, Stone recalled how she was "very into building kind of prototypical sites," adding that she once built a presentation for class when she was younger.
"I also remember the LiveJournal time, and I was such a blog reader for so long," she shared.
Later, the actress revealed her admiration for Substack, which is an online, subscription-based platform that enables writers, journalists, and creators to publish content.
"It was like my favorite thing, and so now I'm truly one of the Substack freaks. I'm spending a lot of money on Substack," Stone stated.
On the professional front, Stone is nominated at the March 15 Academy Awards for Best Actress for Bugonia and as a producer on the film, which is also up for Best Picture.
