Kevin James admitted he had a moment of panic about his future in Hollywood after watching Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009) for the first time, thinking his career "was over".

The comedy action film centers on Paul Blart (Kevin), a clumsy mall security guard who unexpectedly becomes caught up in a high-stakes robbery.

During his candid chat with Drew Barrymore on the February 3 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 60-year-old comedian and actor shared he initially found the movie to be "horrendous," until his good pal Adam Sandler stepped in to make some changes.

"He's a great collaborator," Drew, who has worked with Adam on multiple productions like Blended, 50 First Dates, and more, remarked.

"Everything he does, I listen, I mean I just follow him," the Grown Ups star added.

Kevin credited the 59-year-old actor and comedian for his intervention, serving as a producer through Happy Madison Productions, and stepping in to help rescue the project during development.

"And he saved — he made my movie Mall Cop," he said. "I would never have gotten that made, he made it."

He also went on to confess that the first viewing of the movie was a nerve wracking experience for him.

"And by the way, we shot it and we edited it, and I don't know, you know what it's like seeing a first cut of a movie, it's horrendous," James said. "Like, I thought my career was over and we were so panicked."

Kevin shared that Adam reassured him and gave him confidence in the project.
