Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson had a difficult year when after a complicated pregnancy she gave birth to twin girls who were diagnosed with a rare genetic condition.
The singer also revealed that her daughters’ health condition affected her relationship with partner Zion Foster and they parted ways.
Jesy’s daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, were diagnosed spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) Type 1, in which the life expectancy is generally under the age of 2.
On Wednesday, Jesy spoke on the new episode of Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, where she expressed her hope that the girls will make it past the age and defy all odds.
Explaining the condition she said “So spinal muscular atrophy is a muscular wasting disease, and what it does is, well, they don't have a gene that we all have in our body. So because of that, their muscles are deteriorating and wasting away.”
“And if you don't get them treatment in time, eventually the muscles will all just die, which then affects the breathing, the swallowing, everything, and they will die before the age of 2.”
Jesy recently also revealed that she missed her girls’ birth because she was put to sleep and when she woke up, they were taken for initial care.
