Billie Eilish's brother Finneas O’Connell is fiercely defending his sister after her outspoken remarks at the 2026 Grammy Awards sparked online backlash and he isn’t holding back.

“Seeing a lot of very powerful old white men outraged about what my 24 year old sister said during her acceptance speech,” O’Connell wrote in a post shared to Threads on Wednesday.

“We can literally see your names in the Epstein files,” he added taking a jibe at her critics.

The producer and songwriter’s pointed response comes after Eilish faced intense criticism for using her Song of the Year acceptance speech on Sunday night to condemn Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Standing beside her brother on stage with both siblings wearing “ICE Out” pins Eilish told the audience: “No one is illegal on stolen land.”

She continued: “It’s really hard to know what to say and what to do right now… I just I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter.”

Before leaving the stage Eilish delivered a final line that quickly went viral: “F— ICE.”

Eilish was not alone in her stance that night. Earlier in the ceremony Kehlani ended her Best R&B Performance acceptance speech with a firm “F— ICE.”

Bad Bunny used his Best Música Urbana Album speech to passionately defend immigrants and condemn aggressive enforcement actions.

Still backlash followed and much of it aimed squarely at Eilish.

USA Today published an op-ed titled “PSA to celebs: Stick to performing, stay away from politics,” written by Ingrid Jacques which criticised both Eilish and Bad Bunny.

The piece stated in part: “You are famous because of your talents as musicians, not because of your idiotic views on politics.”

Canadian businessman and television personality Kevin O’Leary also weighed in during an appearance on Fox News’ America Reports on Tuesday.

“As far as Billie, I say this to entertainers, ‘half the people in politics that you piss off won’t buy your music anymore,’” O’Leary said. “Don’t be stupid about it.”

He added: “I mean it’s the first lesson 101 for celebrity. As you rise up, whether you’re a film star or music star, whatever, shut your mouth and just entertain.”

Finneas fired back again on Threads responding directly to Jacques’ op-ed and the broader criticism.

“You just can’t do both,” he wrote.

“You can’t say it doesn’t matter what musicians or celebrities say or think but then talk about it for days. You’re out here making it matter. I’ll keep speaking up especially if it keeps bothering you.”

Despite the criticism neither Billie Eilish nor Finneas appears willing to retreat from speaking openly about their beliefs even if it continues to provoke outrage from powerful critics.
