San Siro Stadium set the stage for the 2026 Winter Olympics as the flame arrived at the century-old arena, marking the historic “glow-up” for the 77,000 spectators witnessing the climax of a 63-day journey across Italy.

Armonia (Harmony) themed ceremony blended the icy peaks of the Dolomites with Milan’s urban energy.

Viral clips already flooding social media show the stadium bathed in shimmering light as the flame made its final approach. High-profile performers, including Mariah and Andrea Bocelli, set the stage for the dramatic entrance.

Addressing the athletes before the cauldron was lit, U.S. Vice President JD Vance emphasized the spirit of the event, stating, “This is one of the few things that unites the entire country,” adding that “the whole country, Democrat, Republican, independent, we’re all rooting for you.”

Organisers designed the event to be “widespread and inclusive,” with simultaneous celebrations in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Creative Lead Marco Balich described the vision as a “bridge connecting Italy’s past and present.”

As the cauldron was ignited, the stadium – celebrating its 100th anniversary – cemented its place in history, proving that even a classic venue can handle a modern, Olympic-sized makeover.
