Canadian snowboarding icon Mark McMorris has officially withdrawn from the Big Air competition at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics following a frightening training crash.

The 32-year-old was stretchered off the hill on Wednesday night after catching a “snow snake” – loose snow on the landing – that sent him tumbling.

Despite the dramatic scene, medical tests brought positive news. McMorris was released from the hospital quickly and returned to the Olympic Village to recover.

In a personal update to fans, McMorris shared, “I hit my head and I will not be able to compete in big air tonight, unfortunately.”

While he is sidelined for the Big Air event, the three-time Olympic medalist is not out of the Games yet. He has shifted his focus to the Slopestyle event, which begins on February 16.

Reflecting on his recovery, McMorris added, “Fortunately, things are looking up for slopestyle so I am trying to stay positive and shifting my focus to that event.”

Team officials confirmed the decision was a precaution to ensure he is 100% healthy for his signature event later this month. For now, McMorris is resting, noting, “Huge thanks to the incredible medical staff who took great care of me and to everyone who reached out with so much love and support.”
