Bandai Namco has officially sent shockwaves through the gaming world by announcing Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters during the latest Nintendo Direct. This sequel to the 2020 hit “Rise of New Champions” is set to launch in 2026 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The game is being hailed as the largest in the franchise’s history, featuring 22 national teams and a massive roster of over 110 playable characters. Developers at TAMSOFT are shifting the focus from traditional sports simulation to what they call “Super Action Soccer.”
According to official statements, the new title “turns soccer matches into thrilling, unexpected battles where players can now unleash super moves for everything from dribbling and tackling to passing and shots on goal.”
This focus on “stylistic soccer flair” is reinforced by over 150 unique animated special moves and a revamped tactical system that “pits goalkeeper against shooter,” allowing for intense, one-on-one showdowns.
Fans can also look forward to:
Custom Characters: Create your own player to join Tsubasa’s journey.
Epic Story: Over 150 cutscenes bring the “Battle of World Youth” arc to life.
New Music: Composer Tadayoshi Makino returns with “80+ new BGM tracks” to heighten the drama.
As the developers put it, the goal is to let players “dominate the field” while experiencing the “spectacular soccer actions” that made the original anime a global phenomenon.
