In a recent update, Austin Butler is set to take on the controversial role for his next major biopic as cyclist Lance Armstrong.

The 34-year-old actor is expected to play the disgraced pro cyclist Lance Armstrong in a film which will explore his life and his controversial career, including his doping scandal, which cost him seven Tour de France victories and an Olympic medal, Entertainment Weekly confirmed.

This marks Austin’s next biopic role after earning an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Elvis Presley.

As per Deadline, Edward Berger (Conclave) is set to direct the project, with a script written by Zach Baylin (King Richard).

Edward, Scott Stuber, and Nick Nesbit will handle its production.

Scott, who produced Bruce Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, had reportedly been pursuing Lance’s life rights for years for this biopic.

Lance has signed off on his life rights for a movie for the first time and intends to participate in the project’s development, without taking a producer credit.

Deadline also reported, Scott and Lance have maintained a long-standing relationship, and the producer reportedly told the former cyclist that the film would only happen if they could cover his complete story.
