James Van Der Beek dies at 48 after brave fight with cancer
James Van Der Beek has left the entertainment world in shock following his tragic death at the age of 48.
On Wednesday, February 11, the late actor’s wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, broke the devastating news on Instagram, revealing that he passed away after battling with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning," she wrote, accompanied by a close-up shot of James.
Kimberly added, "He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come."
Shortly after the announcement, Reese Witherspoon expressed her deepest condolences.
The duo had a special connection while filming last year for the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, set to release on July 1, 2025, on Prime Video.
“What an extraordinary, talented man who also showed great kindness and grace in every action,” Reese, who serves as an executive producer, wrote alongside a photo of James.
She continued, “Praying all the angels watch over his family during this difficult time.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar also shared her sorrow over the late star’s passing.
“I’m so sad for your beautiful family. While James legacy will always live on, this is a huge loss to not just your family but the world. F*** Cancer,” she penned.
Van Der Beek, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, is survived by six children with his wife.
