Rajpal Yadav’s legal problems grew as the Delhi High Court told him he failed to keep his promises.

Based on latest reports, the court made it clear during the bail hearing that the acclaimed comedian is in jail for not following through on his commitments.

According to Hindustan Times, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma stated, “He landed in jail because he failed to comply with the settlement he had agreed to. He had promised to pay the money as part of a settlement and not because the court forced him.”

For the unversed, the matter began in 2010, when the actor took a loan from Murli Projects Private Limited for his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata, produced by his wife. The loan, along with interest and fines, reportedly increased to Rs 9 crore over time.

As per outlet, rejecting claims that the Phir Hera Pheri actor was confused about the proceedings, the court noted, “Rajpal and his lawyers appeared before the court 25 to 30 times” and that he himself “joined through video conferencing at least five times, assuring the court that he would honour the commitment.”

Furthermore, the bench noticed confusion about whether the money would be paid to the court or directly to the person who filed the case.

Notably, the matter has been adjourned to February 16, with Murli Projects Private Limited directed to file a reply to the bail application.
