Zayn Malik reveals what inspired him to make his album 'KONNAKOL'
In a recent move, Zayn Malik has opened up about his Indian heritage in regards with his upcoming album KONNAKOL.
During his appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 33-year-old English singer was asked about the themes of his new album by the host Alex Cooper.
"What themes are you really diving into on this album?" the 31-year-old host asked about the album set to release on April 17.
The Die For Me hitmaker went on to explain that his album is inspired from his "Indian Heritage and culture."
"The new album KONNAKOL is a derivative of a lot of inspiration from my Indian heritage and culture. I’ve put a little soul thing in there, little ad-libs and even on Dust Till Dawn with Sia," he shared. "And it’s something I’ve always liked to show the world I can sing like this too."
The former One Direction member went on to explain what 'KONNAKOL' means by definition, saying, "(It) is the act of creating percussive sounds with your voice, so like drum sounds."
Zayn shared that the album heavily features his voice layered with multiple vocals to create rhythmic beats.
"I made a lot of production out of my own voice. I’m singing layers and layers of different vocals to make a beat," he went on to share details about the album.
The Pillow Talk singer revealed that he did this for the first three to four songs, which gave him the idea to do it for the entire record.
