Vishal Bhardwaj reflects his emotions for 'O’Romeo' in special note
The director expressed great pride and gratitude ahead of Shahid Kapoor starrer's theatrical release
On the eve of the release of O’Romeo, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj did something unusual.
Instead of promoting box office numbers or star power, he wrote a deeply personal note about love, anger, and the strange pull of revenge.
The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, reaches cinemas on 13 February 2026.
But hours before critics and audiences deliver their verdict, the 60-year-old chose reflection over celebration.
He wrote on Instagram, “Before the critics speak and before the box office delivers its verdict, I feel compelled to share how deeply proud I am of this film.”
In a long message, the director called his crew his “real heroes”.
He thanked them for “their unwavering dedication and belief in his vision.” He even promised he would not make another film without his creative producer, Priti Shahani.
Yet what stood out was not just gratitude. It was a confession.
“Through this film, I have realised the immense capacity I hold for love and for violence - together,” he further wrote.
Looking back at his career, the 60-year-old director admitted he sees “a recurring theme” of revenge, something he says he is only now beginning to understand at sixty.
He did not shy away from darker imagery, saying, “In O'Romeo, through my protagonist, I slash throats, split skulls, and blow the brains of the monsters I cannot confront in real life.”
“Opposite this violence stands an equally intense force - love… A love that pulled me out of the pool of blood.”
He described O’Romeo as “as massy as I can be… as poetic as I can be.”
