Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, is mourning a deep personal loss after announcing the passing of his father, Laurence W. Thomaz, at the age of 63.
On Friday, February 13, the 38-year-old rapper took to Instagram Stories to share the heartbreaking news, posting nostalgic photos from his childhood.
"Today my father decided not to wake up. I will always love him, miss him, and be grateful for the things he taught me. He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever, Laurence W. Thomaz," Khalifa wrote.
He later shared another Story showing his father helping him sit properly on a swing as a child, captioned, “Love you big guy,” alongside his emotional hit song See You Again.
A day later, Khalifa shared a candid update on his emotional well-being, admitting he has been struggling with depression, difficulty eating, and feeling unlike himself as he continues to grieve his father’s passing.
"I used to listen to my dad's voice through his chest to comfort me. Now I have the comfort of his voice with me in my chest every day," he noted. "I used to get excited every time I saw my dad's face. Now I get to see him every day when I look at mine."
In addition to this personal loss, Wiz Khalifa is also navigating legal issues, having received a nine-month prison sentence in Romania following a 2024 drug conviction, which has since escalated.
