The first solar eclipse of 2026 is set to occur on Tuesday, February 17.

As per National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scient, the eclipse will take place with a stunning “ring of fire”.

However, the eclipse will be witnessed by only 2 percent of the world population.

The solar eclipse is an astronomical event when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun causing shadow over the planet.

Because of moon’s diameter, it will not cover the sun’s visibility entirely and as per Dr Young, “this will result in a glowing ring of sunlight surrounding the moon’s dark silhouette, like a ‘ring of fire’.”

It will be only visible over skies in the southern continent of Antarctica and will be partially visible in parts of Africa and South America.

The estimated time of its occurrence is 09:56 UTC.

As confirmed by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, it will not be visible in Pakistan.

However, the total lunar eclipse, also famously known as the blood moon, that is set to occue on March 3, will be visible in many parts of Asia, Americas and Australia.
