Vikram Bhatt and his wife get Supreme Court relief in film fund case
The Supreme Court granted the couple bail, but the investigation will continue
Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt have been granted regular bail by the Supreme Court in a fraud case linked to a film project.
The decision comes weeks after the couple were arrested by Udaipur Police in December.
The case began with an FIR filed in November 2025 by Dr Ajay Murdia of Indira IVF at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur.
He alleged that he entered into an agreement with Bhatt’s company to produce films and documentaries in memory of his late wife.
According to the FIR, the 57-year-old filmmaker allegedly promised that if Murdia financed Rs. 7 crore initially and continued funding, four films could be made for Rs. 47 crore.
But the complaint claims the production house failed to deliver the films and siphoned off more than Rs. 30 crore using fake bills and documents.
The couple has denied all wrongdoing. The Raaz director said the police were being misled and claimed he had not received any prior notice about the FIR.
His lawyer Kamlesh Dave told ANI that the entire police action was taken “based only on the FIR and not documents”.
“Every payment was made in the knowledge of both parties. There were no such fake or bogus bills. The agreement was done to make two films first and another two on rolling finance,” he said.
While the Supreme Court has now granted bail, the investigation will continue.
