In a touching display of solidarity, Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli has penned a heartfelt note to his teammate Rinku Singh following the tragic death of Rinku’s father, Kanchand Singh.
The news has sent a wave of emotion through the cricketing community as India competes in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026.
Rinku’s father passed away on the morning of February 27, 2026, at a hospital in Greater Noida after a courageous battle with stage-4 liver cancer.
Kanchand Singh was widely known as the backbone of Rinku’s success, famously continuing his job as a gas cylinder distributor even after his son became a national star to teach him the value of hard work.
As the news broke, Virat Kohli took to social media to support the young batter.
Reflecting the deep bond within the team, Kohli wrote that he was “deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise” and told the young cricketer that his “heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.”
He concluded the viral post with a blessing, saying, “May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti.”
Rinku has been navigating a difficult month, briefly leaving the World Cup camp earlier to visit his father before rejoining the squad for the Zimbabwe clash on February 26.
Following the passing, Rinku travelled to Aligarh to perform the last rites. While his availability for the upcoming “do-or-die” match against the West Indies in Kolkata remains uncertain, the BCCI has granted him full leave to prioritise his family.
