After a slow start, The Kerala Story 2 is finally picking up at the box office.

Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s controversial sequel, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, hit theatres on Friday amid debates and backlash.

Based on latest findings, the opening day was modest, with the film collecting Rs 75 lakh.

But Saturday brought a huge jump as Day 2 earnings shot up 520% to Rs 4.65 crore, taking the two day total to Rs 5.4 crore.

As per India Today report, Saturday saw Hindi shows filling up slowly, averaging 12.20% seats. Morning shows started at 6.45%, rose through the day, and hit 19.05% by night.

Meanwhile, Delhi NCR had 10.25% occupancy in 806 shows, while Mumbai saw 14.75% across 770 shows.

Even with the big jump on Day 2, the sequel hasn’t reached the numbers of the original 2023 version. That film started with Rs 8.03 crore and earned Rs 11 crore on Day 2, and despite criticism and political debates, it went on to collect Rs 302 crore globally.

Alongside this, Vipul has alleged that theatre owners in Chennai and Kerala received threats to pull out The Kerala Story 2 after Friday’s release, following a court stay that had temporarily halted the film.
