The showrunner of Bridgerton has explained why Violet Bridgerton’s Season 4 romance with Marcus was always destined to be short-lived.

The Netflix period drama which is based on the books of Julia Quinn is a global hit as it has been renewed for season 5 and 6.

In the most recent season based on the story of the second Bridgerton son Benedict, the show also focuses on the matrach Violet’s love story with her friend Lady Danbury’s brother Marcus, a storyline not featured in the books.

According to the showrunner, the arc served a larger narrative purpose, but was never intended to become a lasting love story.

Jess Brownell told People “I felt like Violet — this is the first person she's dated since her husband died, and I felt like it was — he's a catalyst, Marcus, for her to realize that she, in fact, has a lot more self-discovery to do.”

Jess added that Violet still has business to attend to with her kids as Francesca is now widowed and Eloise, Gregory and Hyacinth remain unmarried. She said it felt a little “too soon” for her to marry another man.
