The French organisation that brought Jim Carrey to the César Awards has addressed swirling speculation about the actor’s appearance at the French ceremony.

On February 26, Carrey was honoured with a lifetime achievement award recognising his impact on film and television in Paris.

His presence at the event, often described as France’s equivalent of the Oscars, quickly became a talking point online, with some social media users even questioning whether it was truly him on stage.

The renewed spotlight marked one of Carrey’s rare public outings in recent months. Before attending the César Awards, the Truman Show actor had last stepped out publicly in November 2025, when he inducted Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

However, coming through all the rumours, Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of France's César Awards, told Variety in a statement that: “Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation.”

He added that Carrey’s appearance followed eight months of detailed discussions and preparation, noting that the actor had spent months refining his speech in French and even sought guidance on precise pronunciation.

Caulier said Carrey attended with his partner, daughter, grandson, and a group of close friends and relatives, alongside his longtime publicist, and reunited warmly with longtime collaborator Michel Gondry.

“For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance,” Caulier said about his physical appearance.

Following César delegate’s comment, Carrey’s reps confirmed to PEOPLE that, "Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
