‘Evil Dead’ star steps back from public events after shocking health scare
Bruce Campbell drops health bombshell in latest Instagram update
Bruce Campbell, best known for his iconic role as Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead franchise, has shared disappointing health news.
On Monday, March 2, the 67-year-old actor and filmmaker took to his Instagram account to reveal that he has been diagnosed with an incurable type of cancer.
“Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that. I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too,” Campbell announced the news in a written message displayed over a photo.
He went on to explain that due to his ongoing treatment, he will need to step back from some of his professional commitments.
Despite taking a temporary break, the Burn Notice actor said he hopes to be well enough to tour later this year in support of his forthcoming film, Ernie & Emma.
“There are several cons this year summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don't always go hand-in-hand,” he added.
Making it clear that he was not seeking sympathy, Campbell noted, “That's about it. I'm not trying enlist sympathy-or advice. I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”
Toward the end of his heartfelt message, he remained optimistic, sharing that he is surrounded by strong support.
“Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-b**** and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you're the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon! Much love, Bruce Campbell,” the Bubba Ho-Tep star concluded.
