‘Challenges keep me going,’ says Shanaya Kapoor on acting choices
Shanaya said she did not approach such projects to prove a point
Bollywood actress Shanaya Kapoor addressed discussions around age and height differences with her male co-stars, saying she enjoyed taking creative risks in her work.
Shanaya made her screen debut last year with Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan, where she starred opposite actor Vikrant Massey. Their age gap became a topic of conversation at the time. In her recent film Tu Yaa Main, she appeared alongside Adarsh Gourav, and this time the height difference between the actors drew attention.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Shanaya said she did not approach such projects to prove a point.
“It’s not about proving anyone wrong. I can speak about myself, and I think as an actor, it is all about taking that risk; that’s what excites me,” she said.
The Screw Dheela actress explained that repeating similar roles did not interest her. “If you read something and if you feel like, ‘This is something that I’ve done, and let’s go back into it,’ I don’t know how exciting that would be for me,” she said.
The Bedhadak actress added that she preferred roles that challenged her abilities. “I want to look at a scene and be thinking, ‘Oh my god, am I going to be able to pull this off or not? How do I pull this off? How do I find truth in this?’”
Shanaya said experimenting with new characters helped create meaningful moments on screen. “Those are the things that excite me personally, and that’s where you hope to create that magic,” she added.
She also spoke about the current box office environment. She said it felt encouraging to see audiences returning to cinemas. According to her, people had once reduced theatre visits, but group viewings had picked up again, including for international films.
“It’s an exciting time for all actors and for all creators right now too,” she said.
Shanaya stated that the renewed theatre culture had made the experience more motivating for performers.
