Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha faces 'Dummy Captain' fire
Agha took full responsibility for the failure of the team in the T20 World Cup
The Pakistan cricket team's journey in the 2026 T20 World Cup ended in heartbreak on Saturday, failing to reach the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive ICC event.
Despite a narrow five-run victory over Sri Lanka, Pakistan was eliminated on net run rate, sparking a heated post-match press conference in Pallekele that has since gone viral.
Captain Salman Ali Agha was met with a "firing squad" of journalists who questioned his authority and future.
One reporter bluntly asked, "Will you step down from the T20 captaincy yourself or should the Cricket Board remove you?"
Agha, showing visible restraint, replied that "any decision made right now would be emotional" and that he would take a few days after returning home to deliberate.
The tension peaked when a journalist suggested head coach Mike Hesson was the true leader, asking if Agha felt like a "dummy captain."
Agha defended the hierarchy, stating, "The problem is, if I don't answer this, you'll take it as disrespect. But listen to me – when a team is formed, it's a team game. It isn't based on one person's decision."
However, he took full responsibility for the failure, admitting, "We have underperformed. We need to learn how to elevate our game under pressure."
