Hope Street actor Finnian Garbutt has revealed he is in the “last stages” of his life after his skin cancer progressed.

28-year-old star Garbutt who plays PC Ryan Power in the BBC One series shared a statement on March 2 saying recent tests showed the cancer had spread after he experienced pain in his back and hip.

“I am now entering the last stages of my life,” he wrote, explaining it was difficult to tell people individually and that he hopes to spend meaningful time with family and friends.

He was first diagnosed with Stage 3 skin cancer at 25 and underwent 12 hours of surgery in 2022 to remove 75 lymph nodes.

In August 2024 he was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma.

Since his diagnosis Garbutt said he achieved major milestones including filming 30 episodes of Hope Street, starring in upcoming film Housejackers, buying a home, marrying his wife Louise and welcoming their daughter, Saoirse.

Co-stars including Bronagh Waugh and Anthony Boyle shared messages of support.
