Christina Applegate is sharing about the late 80s, when she brought Brad Pitt as her date to an awards show but left him at the end of the night.
In her newly released memoir You With the Sad Eyes, the Emmy-winning actress looks back on asking Pitt to accompany her to the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, noting that the two had been close friends for quite some time before the event.
Applegate, then 17 and riding high on the success of Married... with Children, attended the ceremony in an elegant Ceil Chapman gown that she said made her feel absolutely incredible.
"In fact," she wrote in the book, "I felt so powerful and sure of myself for once that when the awards show was over, I left with Sebastian Bach, not Brad Pitt."
Applegate had her eyes on the Skid Row frontman, Bach, for that whole night. She noted that Pitt was "still making his way as an actor, and he wasn’t yet THE Brad Pitt, the man of so many people’s dreams."
The Married... with Children star, now married to musician Martyn LeNoble, wrote that Pitt ended up driving her mother and a friend home from the ceremony after she left him at the event for a rock star, adding that he did so in a noticeably subdued mood.
"Not surprisingly, [he] was subsequently very mad at me. We didn’t talk for many years after that," Applegate added. "Eventually, we agreed that I’d been a kid, and though he’d deserved much better, it was time to forgive the child who dumped him for the lead singer of Skid Row."
