‘Dukhi Mat Ho Bhai’: Rohit Sharma’s advice that saved Sanju Samson’s career
Don’t be disheartened brother, Rohit said to Samson
The heartwarming story of Rohit Sharma’s support for Sanju Samson has gone viral following Samson’s match-winning performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
After years of being in and out of the squad, Samson finally silenced his critics on March 1, 2026, by smashing an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls against the West Indies, carrying India into the semi-finals.
The “latest” buzz surrounds a video released by the ICC that captures a quiet moment between the two stars before the tournament began. At that time, Samson had been dropped from the starting XI in favour of Ishan Kishan.
In the clip, Rohit Sharma, serving as an ICC ambassador, is seen hugging a dejected Samson at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit’s prophetic advice was simple:
“Kaisa hai? Dukhi mat ho bhai. It is a long tournament, kabhi bhi mauka aa sakta hai” (How are you? Don’t be disheartened, brother. It is a long tournament; an opportunity can come at any moment).
Following the victory, Samson grew emotional, admitting he had spent years doubting himself while watching from the sidelines. He credited his growth to the veterans, stating:
“I was looking from the dugout, learning from greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It’s very important to observe and see what they were doing.”
Now, with India set to face England in the semi-finals, Rohit’s “golden advice” is being hailed as the turning point for Samson’s international career.
