Indian filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma commented on the US-Iran conflict after joint attacks by the United States and Israel. He described the confrontation as a religious battle and stated that he would convert to whichever side won.
He said he saw the conflict as a struggle between two different faiths and added that he would adopt the religion of whichever side won.
Earlier, Varma appeared to support former US President Donald Trump, noting the principle “Might is right.” He referenced his 2005 film Sarkar, writing, “Taking off from the age-old line MIGHT IS RIGHT and Selvar Mani’s dialogue from Sarkar, ‘Jiske paas power hai, uska wrong bhi right hojata hai’ (The one who has power, even his wrong becomes right). Donald Trump is RIGHT because he has MIGHT.”
On March 1, the Shiva director drew a comparison between the war and a cinematic clash. He wrote that he had been waiting for the US-Iran conflict like the box office clash between Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic, noting, “In one, people will die, and in the other, monies will die.”
Varma also mentioned Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stating that Khamenei was hiding after missile strikes, while Trump remained publicly active. Varma wrote, “Ayatollah Khamenei is hiding, and Trump is not hiding and the point is made.”
