Anil Kapoor reveals philosophy behind 'Majnu Bhai painting'
Nearly two decades later, Anil Kapoor opens up about the most talked-about thing from his movie 'Welcome'
Nearly two decades after Welcome hit cinemas, its most unusual yet most talked-about thing is back in the spotlight, a painting.
During a Holi special episode of Wheel of Fortune hosted by Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor revisited the famous "Majnu Bhai painting" that has lived on through memes and T-shirts.
An audience member said he was a big fan of both actors and loved Welcome. He had even brought along a copy of the painting and asked about its story.
The 69-year-old replied that he still owns the original. “Log ye painting ke saath memes banate rehte hain, magar iske peeche ek depth hai, ek story hai, aur ek seriousness bhi hai."
“Aap log iska mazaak uda dete ho, memes bana ke, aur log sochte hain, kaisi painting hai," he added.
When someone mentioned that T-shirts with the painting are being sold, the Nayak star joked that he earns royalty from them. The host looked surprised and burst out laughing.
But the Pukaar actor insisted there was meaning behind the comic art. “Iske peeche ek philosophy hai."
He explained that the horse in the painting stands for hard work and activeness, while the donkey represents the opposite. In his words, the horse does all the hard work but the donkey takes the credit, something he linked to boss and employee dynamics. He even asked the audience if they saw themselves as a horse or a donkey.
Talking about the film’s future, the No Entry actor said, “Sabse pehle toh Akshay Sahab ke saath maine ye film ki thi Welcome 1, fir 2 mein ye nahi the, fir 3 mein mujhe nikal diya aur Welcome 4 hum fir saath mein karenge."
Directed by Anees Bazmee, the 2007 comedy became a cult hit, and so did its painting.
