On Wednesday, March 4, the 32-year-old Irish musician took to his Instagram handle to reveal his first solo single after a brief hiatus of three years.

Expressing his joy over the new project, Horan captioned a lengthy post accompanied by a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from the making of the song, along with snippets from the music video.

“i’m so happy and excited to tell you my new single ‘dinner party’ is coming out march 20. presave it now at niallhoran.com,” he wrote. (sic)

The One Direction alum went on to reveal the true inspiration behind the track and the moment that inspired him to capture its essence through songwriting.

He added, “this song is about a really happy and big moment in my life. an evening at a simple dinner party that changed the course of my life. after writing the song, the words ‘dinner party’ became the nucleus for the rest of the record. that once in a lifetime moment that i am grateful for and for everything that came after that night.” (sic)

Shortly after the announcement post, Horan couldn’t resist teasing his admirers further by sharing a short clip of the song, in which he sings while playing the guitar.
