The Middle East is facing a major military crisis that has reached the doorstep of world-class athletes.
Following a significant escalation between Iran, the U.S, and Israel, confusion has surrounded the status of AL Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
On March 2, flight tracking data confirmed that Ronaldo’s £61 million Bombardier Global Express 6500 jet departed Riyadh for Madrid, Spain.
This move came after “two Iranian drones struck the US embassy in the Saudi capital,” causing local panic. While the jet left, reports remain split on whether the 41-year-old was on board.
His club, Al Nassr, recently shared photos of him training, suggesting that while his family may have sought safety, Ronaldo remains in Riyadh.
The conflict, which began on February 28, has brought Saudi football to a standstill. The Asian Football Confederation has postponed all matches in the West Region.
Adding to the tension, former teammate Rio Ferdinand, currently in the UAE, described hearing “missiles, jets and loud explosions overhead” and being advised to “move into the basement” for protection.
