Jamie Lee Curtis has opened up about ageing and the mantra she has followed since entering her 60s.

During a recent conversation with AARP’s Movies for Grownups, the 67-year-old actress revealed that her perspective on living life has changed after turning 60.

"I turned 60 and realised I was going to die sooner than later," Curtis said.

She added, "Sooner than later means sooner than later. And that understanding meant I have no effing time to waste. No time to waste on toxic people, on relationships that don't serve me."

"I've been self-retiring since I was 30, saying, 'I'll get out of this,' because the industry I'm in is a cruel, cruel industry, particularly with aging," the Freaky Friday star noted while reflecting on the harsh realities of Hollywood. "There's a dismissal of people. I watched it very much with my parents (Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh). So I have just decided to embrace that."

Moreover, Curtis also highlighted the freedom that ageing brings, allowing people to accept themselves the way they are.

"[Freedom means] accepting my crepey skin and showing it anyway. I understand what I look like. I look in the mirror. I get it. And there's no need for me to alter it," she remarked.

Toward the end, the Halloween actress shared that whatever she does now comes from emotion, which she described as an integral part of freedom.

"Everything I do has to come from emotion, and to me, emotion is freedom. I feel people. That has been a gift for me as an actor because all acting is emotion with words," she concluded.

Jamie Lee Curtis’ upcoming project

Curtis is set to return to screens with her upcoming eight-episode TV series Scarpetta, which she stars in and executive produces alongside Nicole Kidman. The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on March 11, 2026.
