SZA opens up about her conflicted feelings on motherhood: ‘Spooky’
The ‘Kill Bill’ singer speaks out about her future motherhood plans
SZA, whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe, has opened up about her thoughts on motherhood and whether she sees herself becoming a parent.
During a recent interview with i-D, published on Friday, March 6, the 36-year-old singer-songwriter shared her honest feelings about having children, admitting that it remains a rather perplexing topic for her.
"She can rest knowing that the mitochondrial DNA of every woman that came before her lives through me," SZA said, before noting that she has been wondering whether she wants to continue that legacy.
The Snooze hitmaker further revealed that even her mother waited a long time before having children, welcoming the seven-time Grammy-winning artist at the age of 43.
She added, "I'm bossed up, I'm taking my time. It's spooky out here — maybe I won't have kids. Maybe I will. Do I really want the magic and the love to end with me, or is it the end of A KARMIC cycle?"
SZA’s past comments on motherhood.
This is not the first time SZA has spoken about embracing motherhood.
In March 2024, the Luther songstress appeared on the SHE MD Podcast and shared that she had discussed the idea of fostering or co-parenting with her best friend.
"Well, I asked my best friend if she would do it with me. She said, no," she revealed.
Explaining why her friend rejected the idea, SZA added, "Because we have too much on our plate. But I'm going to try to sweeten her up."
"She's my bestie, but she's also the smartest person, so it's like even if we didn't end up raising a child together like through a management lens, I'm going to force her to co-parent with me as my fake co-parent," she noted.
Inside SZA’s past relationship
The Kill Bill singer was previously romantically involved with her ex-fiancé, whose identity she has kept private.
She once revealed that he was eight years older than her and supported her financially, prompting the artist to begin making music.
"[I] really only did music to prove a point. When I started making music, it was to my ex-fiancé, because he was paying for everything — my food, my clothes, where I lived. And he was eight years my senior, so I was so codependent," SZA said in a December 2025 interview with Zane Lowe.
