The highly anticipated film Lahore 1947 which Rajkumar Santoshi directed has announced a new title.

The filmmakers believe that using the word "Lahore" in their project would create problems because of existing tensions between India and Pakistan.

The production team has chosen their final decision which they made last week to select a title that will show the entire human disaster of Partition which extended beyond territories that could create international political problems.

Why the title changed to ‘Batwara 1947’

According to Vickey Lalwani the movie Lahore 1947 now carries the title Batwara 1947 which has been its new name since then.

The film produced by Aamir Khan tells the story of India's 1947 partition through its cast which includes Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.

The production adapts Asghar Wajahat's play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya O Jamya E Nai into its screenplay.

The story behind ‘Batwara 1947’

The film takes place during the challenging period which India experienced in its 1947 Partition. The story shows Mai who is an elderly Hindu woman living in Lahore after the partition.

The film rights for the project first went to director Govind Nihalani. Santoshi discovered the powerful narrative which he decided to adapt into a film.
