Aamir Khan has set the record straight on the title of his forthcoming film, Lahore 1947.

Based on latest key findings, the film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, might be retitled Batwara 1947.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the actor-producer dismissed the speculation, saying, “Where did you hear that? No, the title of our film has not changed. As of now, it is Lahore 1947, and that’s how I would like it to be.”

The chatter about a title change reportedly arose from concerns that naming the film after a Pakistani city could be sensitive for Indian audiences.

However, the veteran actor is “not inclined to succumb to any such pressure,” as per publisher.

The report also noted, the ongoing title issue is unrelated to politics or audience sentiment. Director Suneel Darshan owns the rights to the title Lahore, and discussions are underway to resolve the matter soon.

Speaking about the film, Rajkumar said, “It’s a reunion with the most talented people. I worked with Aamir in Andaz Apna Apna, and this time he is collaborating as a producer. On the other hand, with Sunny Deol, we made the most loved films like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.”

He added, “For a film of this magnitude, I can’t think of anyone else than AR Rahman as a music composer; he is one of the top composers in the world right now. Javed Akhtar and I share a very good bond with each other for many years; having him for this project as a lyricist is a delight. This is truly the best dream team and rare to come together.”

It is pertinent to mention, the movie, starring Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Ali Fazal, draws inspiration from Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.

For the unversed, Sunny and Santoshi have a long track record of hits together, including Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak, and this marks their first collaboration in 30 years.

Notably, the upcoming box office hit, Lahore 1947, is slated to release on August 13, 2026.
